How to use the Finnish Humanizer agent skill

Updated · written with AI from the project's own documentation and checked against our catalogue data

The finnish-humanizer skill is a set of instructions that teaches an AI agent to find common signs of machine-written text in Finnish and rewrite them in more natural, direct Finnish. It is aimed at Finnish speakers, writers and teams who have drafted emails, articles or posts with AI help and want them to read like a native speaker wrote them. After this guide you will know what the skill does, how to install it, how to ask for it, and where its limits are.

Quick start

  1. 1Download the ZIP. Download the finnish-humanizer skill ZIP from this page.
  2. 2Unzip into a skills folder. Unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use, or into a project's .claude/skills/ folder for one project.
  3. 3Or upload in the Claude apps. In the Claude apps, go to Settings → Capabilities → Skills and upload the ZIP.
  4. 4Send your Finnish text. Paste the Finnish text you want to humanize, or name a .md or .txt file that contains it.
  5. 5Ask in plain words. Say something like "humanize this" or "remove the AI feel" so the skill loads.
  6. 6Review the changes. Read the rewritten text and the change summary, and check that the meaning and formality are still right.

What is an agent skill, and what does this one do?

An agent skill is a folder of instructions and optional files that an AI agent loads when a task matches the skill's description. This one is called finnish-humanizer and is defined in a SKILL.md file.

When it is active, the agent checks Finnish text against 26 patterns: 12 specific to Finnish and 14 that appear in any language but are fixed in Finnish. Examples include overused passives, missing particles such as -han/-hän, pa/-pä, kyllä and vaan, English-style sentence structure, and inflated praise. The agent then rewrites those parts while keeping the original meaning and formality level.

  • Keeps the factual content unchanged and does not add new claims or examples.
  • Keeps formal text formal; only the AI patterns are removed.
  • Leaves code samples, technical terms and quotations as they are.
  • Works on the Finnish parts of mixed Finnish and English text and leaves English sections alone.

How do you install the finnish-humanizer skill?

Download the skill ZIP from this page and unzip it. For Claude Code, put the unzipped folder in your personal skills directory ~/.claude/skills/, or in a project's .claude/skills/ folder if you want it only for that project.

In the Claude apps, you can instead upload the skill under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.

  • Personal use across projects: ~/.claude/skills/
  • Single project only: .claude/skills/ inside the project folder
  • Claude apps: Settings → Capabilities → Skills, then upload the ZIP

How do you trigger the skill with natural requests?

You do not need a special command. The skill is meant to load when you ask the agent to humanize, naturalize or remove the AI feel from Finnish text, or when you edit .md or .txt files that contain Finnish content.

Paste the text and say what you want in plain words. You can also name the file if the text lives in a document.

  • "Humanize this Finnish email so it sounds like I wrote it."
  • "Remove the AI feel from this Finnish blog post."
  • "Naturalize the Finnish text in docs/article.md."
  • "Tee tästä suomenkielisestä tekstistä luonnollisempi."

What happens with short and long texts?

For texts under 500 words, the agent rewrites the text directly and returns the revised version with a short list of changes. For longer texts, it first lists the patterns it found and where they occur, shows you the findings, and asks about unclear cases before making changes. An unclear case is one where it cannot tell whether a feature is an AI pattern or a deliberate choice by the author.

If you only want the rewritten text with no explanation, say so and the agent will leave out the change summary.

What examples show the difference?

The skill's examples show how common patterns are fixed. In one, a passive-heavy sentence about an app is rewritten in active Finnish. In another, a sentence without particles gains natural ones: "Tämä on totta" becomes "Onhan se totta. Tilanne on vaan monimutkainen."

Inflated praise is also removed. "Hyvä kysymys! ..." is replaced with a plain statement of the topic.

  • Passive overuse: "Sovellus on suunniteltu tarjoamaan..." becomes "Sovelluksella hallitset omat tietosi."
  • Universal inflation: a sentence calling everything "merkittävä" and "keskeinen" becomes "Tekoälystä tulee tärkeä työkalu moniin ongelmiin."

What does the skill need, and what about scripts and network?

The skill lists no required tools or packages. It does not run scripts and does not use the network, according to its description. It reads the SKILL.md instructions and the references/patterns.md file, which contains the full list of 26 patterns with examples.

Because it runs no scripts and makes no network calls, the main thing to review is the text you send it. Check the output before publishing, especially for legal or contractual documents.

  • Required: nothing listed
  • Runs scripts: no
  • Uses network: no
  • Files: SKILL.md and references/patterns.md

What are the limits and useful tips?

The skill is not a grammar checker or a translator. It may miss errors, and it can change meaning if used that way. The rewrite changes phrasing, so do not use it on texts whose exact wording must be kept, such as legal or contractual documents.

For best results, give the agent a short sample of your own writing so it keeps your voice, and review each change in the summary. Mixed Finnish and English text is handled by changing only the Finnish parts.

  • Do not use it as a grammar checker or translator.
  • Review the change list before you publish.
  • Ask for the text only, without a summary, if you do not need the reasoning.
  • Keep legal and contractual wording out of the rewrite.

What people use it for

  • Polishing an AI-drafted work email in Finnish so it sounds direct and natural.
  • Editing a Finnish blog post or article in a .md file that was partly written with AI.
  • Making Finnish marketing copy less inflated while keeping its formal register.
  • Reviewing a .txt document with mixed Finnish and English, changing only the Finnish sections.

Frequently asked questions

How do I install the finnish-humanizer skill?

Download the ZIP from this page and unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use, or into a project's .claude/skills/ folder. In the Claude apps, you can upload the ZIP under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.

Does the finnish-humanizer skill need anything else installed?

The skill lists no required tools or packages. It does not run scripts and does not use the network.

Is the finnish-humanizer skill free?

The source repository, Hakku/finnish-humanizer, is listed under the MIT licence. This page does not state pricing, so check the licence terms for your own use.

Can I use finnish-humanizer as a Finnish grammar checker?

No. The skill states it is not a grammar checker or translator, so it may miss errors or alter meaning if used that way. Use a grammar tool for checking and keep the skill for removing AI-style patterns.

Why does the skill ask me questions on long texts?

For texts over 500 words, it lists the patterns it found and asks about unclear cases, such as whether a feature is an AI pattern or a deliberate choice by the author, before it changes the text.

What should I not use this skill on?

Avoid it for texts where exact wording must be kept, such as legal or contractual documents, because the rewrite changes phrasing.

Our verdict

Finnish speakers and writers who have AI-drafted emails, articles or posts will get the most from this skill, especially when they want a more natural, direct voice. It is not suited to grammar checking, translation or legal and contractual wording, where a different tool or a manual edit is the better choice.
