How to use the Announcement Board agent skill

Updated · written with AI from the project's own documentation and checked against our catalogue data

The Announcement Board agent skill helps an AI agent plan a simple internal news or notices board for a small business. It covers who writes posts, who reads them, approval steps, publish and expiry dates, and acknowledgements. This guide explains what agent skills are, how to install this one, how to trigger it, and what it can and cannot do.

  1. 1Download the ZIP. Download the announcement-board skill ZIP from this page.
  2. 2Unzip the skill. Unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use or into .claude/skills/ in your project folder.
  3. 3Or upload it in the Claude apps. Go to Settings → Capabilities → Skills and upload the skill.
  4. 4Describe your need. Ask in plain language, for example that you want an announcement board or a notice board for your team.
  5. 5Answer the follow-up questions. Reply to the agent's questions about audience, approval and current process. Skip any you cannot answer.
  6. 6Review the recommendation. Read the short workflow and recommendation the agent gives by default.
  7. 7Request artifacts if needed. Ask for a CSV, SQL, JSON Schema or Notion plan, then check the empty template before using it.

What is an agent skill and what does this one do?

An agent skill is a folder containing a SKILL.md file that gives an AI agent specific instructions for a task. When the skill is installed and your request matches it, the agent follows those instructions.

The announcement-board skill makes the agent work out the smallest useful announcement board for your business. By default it gives a short recommendation: publish in one place, keep an expiry date so old posts stop looking current, and target the right audience rather than broadcasting to everyone.

  • Default output: a short recommendation, not a spreadsheet
  • On request: an empty CSV template, an SQL table definition, a JSON Schema, or a Notion import plan
  • The Notion output is handled by a separate notion-manual-import skill

Install the Announcement Board skill

Download the ZIP for this skill from this page. Then choose one of the following methods.

For a personal setup, unzip the download into ~/.claude/skills/. For a single project, unzip it into the project's .claude/skills/ folder. In the Claude apps, you can instead upload the skill under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.

  • Personal: unzip into ~/.claude/skills/
  • Project: unzip into .claude/skills/ inside your project folder
  • Claude apps: Settings → Capabilities → Skills, then upload

How do you trigger the skill with natural requests?

You do not need a special command. Describe what you need in plain language. The skill responds to phrases such as announcement board, company news feed, notice board, and internal announcements.

You can also use it when you describe a news process that currently happens in a spreadsheet, a document, or someone's inbox.

  • "Help me set up an announcement board for our office."
  • "We share company news by email. Can you tidy up how we do it?"
  • "Create a CSV template for tracking internal notices."
  • "Is our notice process right? Here is how it works now."

What happens when you use it?

The agent first works out what you want. If you are asking to build something, it asks only for missing facts that would change the output, one question at a time. It does not invent answers. If you do not know something, it records it as unknown and continues.

Typical topics it asks about are the audience, what gets posted, who approves posts, how news is shared now, and what outcome you need. Once the basics are clear, it either gives a recommendation or builds the artifacts you requested.

  • Recommendation workflow: Draft → Approval → Publish → Read or acknowledged → Expiry
  • Artifacts are produced only when you ask for them
  • The CSV includes columns such as Announcement Title, Author, Category, Department, Priority, Publish Date, Expiry Date, Status, Target Audience and Acknowledged By
CREATE TABLE announcement_board ( announcement_title VARCHAR(255), ann_id SERIAL PRIMARY KEY, category VARCHAR(100) NOT NULL, expiry_date DATE NOT NULL, priority VARCHAR(100) NOT NULL, publish_date DATE NOT NULL, status VARCHAR(100) NOT NULL );

What does the skill need, and what are the safety limits?

The skill lists no required tools or packages. It does not run scripts and does not use the network. Its files consist of SKILL.md only.

It is not for payroll, tax, or legal questions. It produces empty templates only and never holds or processes real employee or customer data. Do not store live employee or customer records in it, and do not treat it as a secure data system. Public or external communications that need marketing or compliance review are outside its scope. The Notion step never asks for a password or token.

  • Requires: nothing listed
  • Runs scripts: no
  • Uses network: no
  • Not for payroll, tax or legal advice
  • Not for storing live employee or customer records

Tips for better results

Give the agent a clear picture of who reads your announcements and who writes them. Those two answers shape most of the output.

If you open the CSV in Excel, the skill provides UTF-8 with a byte order mark so text displays correctly. A CSV does not carry data types, so after importing, apply number, date or currency formats to the columns that need them. Ask for a .xlsx workbook only if you specifically need one.

  • State your audience early, for example whole company or one team
  • Ask for only the formats you need
  • Check date columns after import, since CSV has no types

What people use it for

  • Setting up a simple company news board so staff stop missing announcements sent by email or chat
  • Creating an empty CSV template to track internal notices with publish and expiry dates
  • Drafting an SQL table definition for an announcements table with no real data
  • Planning an approval step so one person reviews posts before they go out
  • Preparing a Notion import plan for an announcement database

Our verdict

Use this skill if you are a small business owner or office manager who wants a tidier way to share internal news, or if you want an empty starter template for tracking notices. Pick something else for payroll, tax or legal questions, for storing live employee or customer records, or for external communications that need professional marketing or compliance review.
